Small Format Scanning
We can scan any small format type document. We begin with detailed preparation of your documents by removing staples, paper clips, bulldog clips, and rubber bands. Scanning options include:
- Small format sizes from 8.5″ x 11″ to 11″ x 17″
- High resolution scanning up to 600 dpi
- Documents can be scanned in colour, grayscale, or black and white
- Output formats include PDF, JPEG, TIFF, Microsoft Word and many others
- Custom indexing, book marking and file naming is available upon request

All images scanned by Calgary Archives are processed for Despeckling, Deskewing, Proper Rotation, and file size optimization.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
Optical Character Recognition is the process of automatic recognition and interpretation of text from different types of documents including scanned paper documents, newspapers, magazines or PDF files into editable and searchable data. Calgary Archives offers a number of solutions for extracting text from different types of documents.

Definitions
Despeckle : An image processing (clean-up) operation that removes random specks, called flyspecks or pepper, from an image to improve legibility, OCR accuracy and to improve compression.
Deskew : To straighten out a crooked image. Improves OCR accuracy and reduces image file size.
