1. How long must I keep my old records?
Federal and provincial governments each have industry-specific requirements. Generally most records should be kept for 7 years; however some vital records are kept permanently. These include titles, leases, and wills, to name a few.
2. What is a standard file box?
Industry-standard file boxes hold legal paper in one direction and letter size in the other direction. These file boxes are 1.2 cubic feet, measuring 16″ x 12″ x 10″. This size of box is easy to handle and transport. More Info
3. What is a BANKERS BOX®?
Wider and nearly twice as long as standard file boxes, these are more difficult to handle and transport, and cost more for storage. Contact us with questions regarding other sized boxes and cartons.
4. Can you do the packing for me?
Yes, and in a hurry if need be. We also index the contents of your boxes.
5. Can you advise a system for my record keeping?
Absolutely! Debbie Matcyk is our on site archivist and is always happy to answer your record management questions. You may contact Debbie at 403-230-4343 or by email at debbie@calgaryarchives.com.
6. What is certified destruction?
When your cartons and contents are no longer required and you wish to permanently dispose of them, you may require certified destruction. This sees your cartons shredded by a licensed and bonded company under our supervision with a certificate of destruction upon completion. Contact Debbie Matcyk for further information, including alternative methods of disposal.
7. How quickly can you deliver?
Standard delivery by our bonded drivers can occur on the same day if you call by 11:45 am. Afternoon requests are delivered the following morning. We also offer a Rush Service with delivery in 2 hours or less.
8. How secure are my records at Calgary Archives?
At Calgary Archives, we maintain our own file storage vaults in company-owned buildings. These are highly controlled and monitored facilities with limited access.
9. Do you provide a file listing of my records?
Yes, provided you know the contents of each of your file boxes. Alternatively, we can index the contents of your boxes for you. We will even provide you with an excel template so you can easily reference and update your box contents.
10. What if I need files on a weekend or holiday?
Delivery is always available for your emergency requirements.
